New Design Rationale

Well, besides the obvious - to replace the vastly outdated last incarnation of the site - the intent of this site is to be the antithesis of most websites. Instead of tiny fonts, and obscene amounts of clutter, trying to cram as much information as possible - and then a little more - onto each page (the kind of site that makes me seek out the search bar quick), I opted for a more relaxed, "less is more" feel. Less scrolling, easy navigation, (hopefully) no need for a search function; simplicity, and minimalism.
The second driving force was a pure css-driven site. Complete separation of design from content. This will mean easier updates, alterations, even total transformation. In keeping the site simple, can hardly even tell it's powered by a content management system! My template is so bare it's scary!
Sure, it's not the first time I've made pure css sites, but it is the first time I really tried it within a CMS (it wasn't really possible in Joomla 1.0, without rewriting the whole core, which would have made upgrading fun!). Kudos to the Joomla developers around the world, they're doing an awesome job.
